WBB Heads To Cleveland For MAC Tourney Second Round
MUNCIE, Ind. - The No. 5 seeded Ball State women's basketball team (15-15) advanced to the Mid-American Conference second round in Cleveland, Ohio, after its 73-38 defeat over 12th-seeded Kent State (7-23) Monday night in Worthen Arena.
The Cardinals will face Northern Illinois Wednesday at noon at Quicken Loans Arena in the second round game.
The Cardinals had one of their best shooting performances of the season after shooting 51.1 percent from the field and 60 percent from behind the arc for the game, while holding the Golden Flashes to 28.9 percent shooting.
At the 18:19 mark of the second half Brandy Woody knocked down a three point basket to become the 22nd member of the 1,000-point club. With 12:15 on the clock the Cardinals had built one of their largest leads of the game, 50-19, after Jill Morrison knocked down her fifth three pointer of the contest. After that, the Cardinals held Kent State scoreless for 5:52, making it a 50-21 ball game with 8:23 remaining.
The Cardinals opened the game with a 16-5 run over the Golden Flashes and never looked back. Ball State had built a 20-point lead (31-11) by the 3:50 mark. The Cardinals ended the half up 35-15 over Kent State. Ball State shot 60 percent from behind the arc in the first half alone including two three point baskets from Nathalie Fontaine and three from Morrison.
