Two Players Receive All-MAC Basketball Honors

 CLEVELAND, Ohio – Sophomore guard Nathalie Fontaine and senior guard Brandy Woody were both honored by the Mid-American Conference Monday afternoon, when the league announced the 2013-14 All-MAC awards as voted on by the league’s 12 head coaches.

Fontaine earns All-MAC Second Team accolades for the second consecutive season after leading the Cardinals in both scoring (16.7 ppg) and rebounding (6.3 rpg) this season. The 2012-13 MAC Freshman of the Year and MAC All-Freshman Team selection, Fontaine scored 26 points in last Saturday’s 69-56 win over Toledo giving her double-digit point totals in 52 of her 59 career games. The 26-point effort also allowed Fontaine to become just the second player in program history to reach 900 points by the end of her sophomore year. Fontaine enters the 2014 MAC Tournament with 906 career points. Tamara Bowie (1999-2003) is the only other Ball State player to score at least 900 points before the end of her sophomore season, posting 943 over her first two years with the Cardinals. 

Woody, who was named to the 2013-14 All-MAC Honorable Mention squad, has played in 121 games and made 114 starts over her Ball State career. During her time on the court, Woody has amassed 998 career points, 590 career rebounds, 434 career assists and has stolen the ball 204 times.  This season Woody has scored in double figures 15 times,  including a season-high 22-point performance in a win at IPFW (12/29). Currently, the senior is averaging 10.0 points per game and pulling down 6.0 rebounds per contest. As a junior Woody earned All-MAC Third Team honors after averaging 10.9 points per game, along with posting a team-high 125 assists and 80 steals. Woody is a two-time MAC Player of the Week recipient for her career and needs two points to become the 22nd member of Ball State women's basketball 1,000th point club.

 
The Ball State women's basketball team secured the No. 5 seed in the 2014 Mid-American Conference Tournament Saturday with a 69-56 win over Toledo, and will host No. 12 Kent State in the first round of the MAC Tournament Monday at 7 p.m. in Worthen Arena.
