MT. PLEASANT, Mich. -  In a game that mimicked the first meeting between the Cardinals and the Chippewas, the Ball State women's basketball team suffered an 85-72 overtime loss for the second time this season at Central Michigan Thursday night in McGuirk Arena.

With the loss, Ball State falls to 11-15 overall and 6-9 in the MAC, while the Chippewas improved to 18-9 for the year and 14-1 in league play.

There were five lead changes in the second half and the score was tied six times.  The Cardinals had four players reach double figures with Brittany Carter scoring a season high 21 points which included six three point baskets.  Shelbie Justice and Nathalie Fontaine each added 15 points while Brandy Woody ended the night with 11.

Central Michigan opened the second half strong taking its first lead of the ball game, 39-37, at the 14:55 mark.  After that, both teams traded baskets up until the 7:28 mark when the Cardinals then put together a 13-5 run to go up 63-55 with 4:17 left on the clock.  The run came off of baskets from Woody along with two three point baskets from Carter and Justice.

With 3:56 left to play, Central Michigan orchestrated a 14-6 run and would tie the game 69-69 off of a three point basket from Jessica Green with nine seconds on the clock to put the game into overtime.

The Chippewas took advantage of the overtime rattling off nine straight points to go up (78-69) with 2:03 remaining, Central Michigan's would continue to control the remainder of the game for the 85-72 victory.

Carter opened the game with a three point basket to give Ball State the early 3-0 edge over Central Michigan.  The Cardinals led the entire first half, with Ball State's largest lead being eight (25-17) at the 6:10 mark and then again 27-19 with 2:57 remaining in the half.  Central Michigan quickly put together a 6-0 run to cut Ball State’s lead down to two (29-27) with 44 seconds on the clock.  Woody would then close the half with a layup and a free throw, giving the Cardinals the 32-27 advantage over the Chippewas at intermission.

The Ball State women’s basketball team continues Mid-American Conference action in the state of Michigan Saturday, when the Cardinals travel to Western Michigan for a 2 p.m. tipoff in Read Fieldhouse.
