MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's basketball team (12-13, 9-3 MAC) tallied a 56-34 victory over Eastern Michigan (6-19, 4-8 MAC) in a Mid-American Conference contest Wednesday evening in Worthen Arena.

The Cardinals had four players in double figures with freshman guard Nathalie Fontaine leading the way with a double-double after scoring 16 points while pulling down 12 rebounds.  Sophomore guard Shelbie Justice chipped in 11 points while teammates junior forward Katie Murphy and junior guard Brandy Woody each had 10 apiece.  Murphy also brought down a career-high 15 rebounds in the victory.  As a team Ball State out-rebounded Eastern Michigan 56-to-34.

In a game that Eastern Michigan led 15-13 at the half, the Cardinals outscored the Eagles 43-19 in the second stanza to seal the victory.

Ball State's second half surge which started at the 11:37 mark after a jumper from Brittany Carter that tied the game 28-28 gave the Cardinals the momentum they needed to win the ball game.

After that, Ball State orchestrated a 16-2 run with baskets from Murphy, Justice and Lyzz Smith giving the Cardinals a 41-30 advantage over the Eagles with 7:52 left in the contest.  The Cardinals continued to shoot well the remainder of the half, Woody nailed a three pointer to make it 48-34 with 1:32 remaining.  The Eagles were unable to overcome their second half deficit while the Cardinals made their free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.

Poor shooting and turnovers plagued both teams in the first half.  The score was tied a total of four times with two lead changes but Eastern Michigan would end the half up 15-13 over Ball State.

The Ball State women's basketball team continues MAC action at home Saturday when it hosts Northern Illinois at 2 p.m. in Worthen Arena.   The game against the Huskies will be the Cardinals "Think Pink" game for breast cancer awareness.
