WBB Battles Toledo Sunday for First Place in the MAC

What's On Tap:  Ball State looks to extend its six-game win streak when it hosts Toledo in Mid-American Conference action Sunday at 2 p.m. in Worthen Arena.  The Cardinals are currently tied for first in the MAC West Division with the Rockets after knocking off Central Michigan Thursday night 68-61 in Worthen Arena.  Ball State is now 5-0 against MAC West Division opponents after its victory over CMU.  Ball State is 11-11 overall and 8-1 in league action which is the best conference start for the Cardinals since the 2006-07 season.  Toledo is coming off of an 80-49 win at Miami Wednesday, Feb. 6.  The Rockets have now won eight games in a row with a 20-2 overall record and are 8-1 in conference action.  The only team Toledo has lost to in league action this season was Central Michigan (73-66) Jan. 10.

About Toledo:  The Rockets have only lost two games so far this season, one in non-conference action when Toledo fell at Dayton (79-76) Nov. 14 and then Central Michigan (73-66) Jan. 10.  Toledo has already earned victories over Bowling Green (48-38) Jan. 13, Eastern Michigan (56-40) Jan. 16, Buffalo (59-44) Jan. 19, Akron (77-65) Jan. 23, Northern Illinois (44-42) Jan. 26, Ohio (61-42) Jan. 31, Western Michigan (65-54) Feb. 3 and Miami (80-49) Feb. 6.  The Rockets have two players leading their squard with Andola Dortch and Naama Shafir both averaging 11.7 points per game.  The leading rebounder for Toledo is Yolanda Richardson with 6.9 boards per contest.  Toledo leads the MAC in two categories, scoring defense (49.7) and offensive rebounds (14.2).

The Coaches: Ball State head coach Brady Sallee is in his first season at Ball State.   Sallee's career coaching record is 147-120 and he is 11-11 overall and 8-1 in the MAC with the Cardinals.  He was named the 11th head women's basketball coach in Ball State history May 10.  During his tenure at Eastern Illinois, Sallee posted a 136-109 career record.  He led the Panthers to the institution's first-ever Ohio Valley Conference title during the 2009-10 campaign. In 2011-12, Eastern Illinois was 22-9 overall, posted a 13-3 OVC mark and competed in the Women's National Invitation Tournament.  Tricia Cullop was named the Toledo head women's basketball coach April, 28, 2008.  After four season, Cullop and her squad have participated in postseason play three times including a 2011 WNIT championship banner, a MAC regular-season title and three MAC West Division crowns.  Cullop is in her fifth season at the helm of the Rockets and owns a career overall record of 116-42 and a 58-15 conference mark.
