WBB Opens MAC Play At Home Against Miami Thursday

What's On Tap: Ball State women's basketball hosts Miami University in its Mid-American Conference opener Thursday.  BSU is looking to bounce back after losing its last non-conference game to Valparaiso by a score of 58-53 on Dec. 29.  Miami is coming off of a 54-49 win over Duquesne in Pittsburgh Saturday, Jan. 5.  The RedHawks put together an 8-5 overall non-conference mark and are currently on a two game winning streak.  The Cardinals enter today's game with an overall record of 3-10.

About Miami:  Miami holds a three-or-higher ranking in six statistical categories in the Mid-American Conference, including having the No. 1 spot in blocks per game averaging at 4.5 a contest, while also leading in offensive rebounding percentage with .394 percent.  The RedHawks' 8-5 record is the third best in the MAC East.  Miami is led by Courtney Osborn in scoring with 17.8 points per game, while teammate Kirsten Olowinski is averaging a double-double with 11.3 ppg and 10.1 rebounds per contest.

The Coaches: Ball State head coach Brady Sallee is in his first season at Ball State.   Sallee's career coaching record is 139-119 and he is 3-10 with the Cardinals.  He was named the 11th head women's basketball coach in Ball State history May 10.  During his tenure at Eastern Illinois, Sallee posted a 136-109 career record.  He led the Panthers to the institution's first-ever Ohio Valley Conference title during the 2009-10 campaign. In 2011-12, Eastern Illinois was 22-9 overall, posted a 13-3 OVC mark and competed in the Women's National Invitation Tournament.  The longest tenured women's basketball coach in Miami history, Maria Fantanarosa is now in her 15th season as the head coach of the RedHawks. She is coming off leading Miami to a 21-10 campaign in 2011-2012 which saw it qualify for the WNIT for the second time in school history.  Fantarosa owns a career overall record of 226-204 and a 118-106 Mid-American Conference record.
