MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The No. 12 Ball State women's basketball team (9-21) ended its season at No. 5 Central Michigan (17-14) 86-60 Saturday in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
Senior forward and co-captain Suzanne Grossnickle led the Cardinals on both sides of the court offensively and defensively with her fifth double-double of the season. Grossnickle ended her career at Ball State with a personal best performance in scoring (25 points) and rebounding (14 rebounds).
Ball State trailed the entire contest shooting only 32.8 percent from the field while Central Michigan shot 40.0 percent. The Chippewas scored 22-points off of the Cardinals 28 miscues for the game.
Central Michigan started the game off with a 6-0 run to take the early lead over Ball State. The Cardinals still down by six (15-9) at the 13:17 mark orchestrated a 5-0 run to come within one-point (15-14) with 12:08 left in the first half, with help from freshman guard Brittany Carter and junior guard Shanee' Jackson.
The Chippewas continued to make baskets eventually building a 13-point (36-23) halftime advantage over Ball State at intermission.
The Ball State women's basketball team will begin its 2012-13 foreign exhibition tour in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, August 9-15.
