Scouting Ball State: The Cardinals enter the 2012 First Energy Mid-American Conference Tournament as the No. 12 seed. Ball State enters the tournament with an overall record of 9-20 while finishing the MAC regular season with a 4-12 conference mark. The Cardinals three out of their four league wins came against the MAC West Division. Ball State is slated to play at No. 5 Central Michigan Saturday in the first round of the MAC Tournament in McGuirk Arena at 2 p.m. The Cardinals and the Chippewas split its league series this season both winning at their respective home venues. Freshman guard Brittany Carter and sophomore forward Jazmin Hitchens lead the Cardinals in scoring with 8.8 points per game while senior forward Suzanne Grossnickle is averaging 7.4 points per contest and 5.2 rebounds.
Scouting Central Michigan: The Chippewas enter the 2012 First Energy Mid-American Conference Tournament as the No. 5 seed. Central Michigan enters the tournament with an overall record of 16-14 and finished the MAC regular season with an 8-8 mark. The Chippewas are coming off of a 61-46 upset to MAC West Division Champion Eastern Michigan Tuesday. Crystal Bradford leads the Chippewas in scoring with 13.5 points per game and in rebounding with 7.9 rebounds per contest, Jessica Green is a close second with 11.8 ppg.
The Coaches: Ball State head coach Kelly Packard is in her fourth season at Ball State . . . Packard's overall record at Ball State is 58-67 (.464), while her Mid-American Conference mark is 29-36 . . . . Sue Guevara is in her fifth season at Central Michigan. . . Guevara's overall record at CMU is 71-80 and she owns a MAC record of 34-44 . . . Guevara is a familiar face with Ball State women's basketball as she was an assistant coach for the Cardinals in 1985-86.
The Series: This is the 65th meeting between Ball State and Central Michigan . . . The series is tied between the two schools 32-32 . . . Ball State lost to Central Michigan in its first meeting this season by a score of 84-66 and then won their second meeting 84-76 at Worthen Arena.
