KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Ball State University women's basketball team (9-19, 4-11 MAC) fell to Western Michigan (9-19, 5-10 MAC) Saturday afternoon in Mid-American Conference action by a score of 68-51 at University Arena.
The Cardinals shot 34 percent to the Broncos 41.8 percent from the field. Despite the loss Ball State out-rebounded the Broncos 42-to-29 with seniors Ty'Ronda Benning and Emily Maggert leading BSU with six boards apiece.
Maggert led all scorers with 18 points while Benning chipped in 11 for the day.
WMU carried its 17-point advantage momentum into the second half. Taylor Manley was the high scorer for the Broncos with 16 points.
The Broncos got off to a strong start after taking an early 7-2 lead over the Cardinals with 18:00 minutes into the first period. WMU led the remainder of the half forcing Ball State to commit 16 turnovers. The Broncos headed into intermission up 43-26 over BSU.
The Ball State University women's basketball team will end its MAC regular season when it hosts Northern Illinois Wednesday night at Worthen Arena for a 7 p.m. tipoff. The Cardinals will recognize their four seniors Maggert, Ebony Jackson, Benning and Shannon Klei.
