Fontaine's Double-Double Leads WBB Past EMU
YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Ball State women's basketball team expanded its win streak to five after its 56-41 Mid-American Conference road win Sunday at Eastern Michigan.
With the win Ball State improves to 10-11 overall and 7-1 in league action which is the best conference start for the Cardinals since the 2006-07 season when Ball State started out 8-1. Eastern Michigan drops to 5-16 overall and 3-5 in MAC action.
Nathalie Fontaine led the Cardinals with her second double-double of the season after scoring 14 points while pulling down 10 rebounds. Both Brittany Carter and Shanee' Jackson also scored in double figures with 12 points apiece.
Carter opened the game with a three pointer to give Ball State the early 3-0 edge over Eastern Michigan.
After that, both teams traded baskets up until the 9:23 mark when Eastern Michigan put together a 10-2 run to give EMU the 20-12 advantage over Ball State with just 3:41 left in the half.
Ball State answered quickly with a 6-0 run of its own, which was sparked by a Fonatine. Ball State ended the half trailing Eastern Michigan, 20-18.
It was a defensive battle at the start of the second half before Ball State put together a 28-8 run that started at the 14:08 mark giving the Cardinals the 48-32 advantage over the Eagles with 4:29 remaining in the contest. During that run, Justice, Carter and Woody all knocked down three pointers along with points in the paint from Jackson and Fontaine.
The Ball State women's basketball team begins a two-game homestand Thursday, when it hosts Central Michigan at 7 p.m. in Worthen Arena.
