Ball State came out of the gates strong in the first half to take an early 17-0 advantage over Kent State.  The Cardinals defense held the Golden Flashes scoreless up until the 10:15 mark of the first half.

In addition, Ball State's stellar defense forced Kent State into 15 turnovers before the Golden Flashes scored their first point of the contest.

With 6:33 left in the first period Kent State managed its first field goal of the contest making it a 19-8 game.

After that, Kent State went on an 8-0 run to close the gap to 19-16 with 4:17 to play in the half.  Ball State remained in control to end the half up 26-20.  The Cardinals also forced 20 Kent State turnovers in the first half alone.

Ball State shot only 33 percent from the field in the first half, but held the Golden Flashes to 27 percent shooting in the first stanza.

The Cardinals led the entire game, but Kent State managed to pull within two in the second half (33-31) with 11:55 remaining.  With just under eight minutes left in the contest,  Ball State answered with a 10-0 run which was sparked by a three point basket from sophomore guard Shelbie Justice to put the Cardinals back up by 12 (43-31).
