The Ball State track & field team enters this weekend’s meet fresh off of a strong showing at last Friday’s Cardinal Invitational. The Cardinals posted 14 event wins in a 290-168 victory over IPFW, which also saw Ball State’s student-athletes posted 29 career-best efforts.

Entering this weekend’s Jesse Owens Track Classic, the Cardinals have 23 student-athletes ranked in the top 30 in the Mid-American Conference in their respective events.

Junior Haley Austin (Avon, Ind./Avon) is the top-ranked Cardinal, holding the fourth slot in the high jump after posting a career-best and MAC outdoor championship automatic qualifying mark of 1.70m at last weekend’s Cardinal Invitational.

Junior Christina Crawford (Belleville, Mich./Romulus) has tallied MAC championship automatic qualifying marks in the long jump in all three outdoor meets this season, including a career-best effort of 5.95m last Friday, which is currently the fifth-best mark in the league this season. Crawford also enters the Jesse Owens Track Classic with the league’s 25th-best mark of the year in the 100m dash at 12.38.

Other Cardinals currently ranked in the top 10 in the MAC include: Zenée Gadson (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) in the triple jump (eighth at 11.22m), Courtney Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) in the 3000m steeplechase (ninth at 11:16.02), Mindy Marx (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) in the high jump (ninth at 1.65m) and Gabrielle Perryman (Beachwood, Ohio/Beachwood) in the triple jump (10th at 10.90m).

In the throws, sophomore Michaela Hull (Bloomington, Ind./South) is poised to qualify for the league meet in three events after posting career-best mark in the javelin (33.15m / 14th in MAC), discus (44.36m / 18th in MAC) and shot put (11.97m / 23rd in MAC) at last weekend’s Cardinal Invitational.
