BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - The Ball State indoor track & field team closed the Indiana Relays with four top 10 efforts Saturday at IU's Gladstein Fieldhouse.
Overall, the Cardinals finished the two-day, non-scored Indiana Relays with one event win, seven top 10 performances and nine career-best marks. Four of those career-best efforts came on the final day of the competition.
Junior high jumper Haley Austin (Avon, Ind./Avon) turned in the Cardinals' most impressive performance of the day, placing seventh in the high jump with a career-best leap of 1.74m. The effort is Ball State's highest of the season in the event, and 0.06m higher than Austin's previous season-best mark of 1.68m which was a Mid-American Conference Indoor Championship qualifying mark.
In the 400m dash, senior Hannah Lange (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) turned in a career-best effort of 58.07 to place fifth overall. Earlier in the day, freshman Ariel Hune (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) placed 10th in the 400m dash morning set with a career-best clocking of 1:00.76.
Ball State's other top 10 effort on the final day of the competition came from freshman Olivia Ashba (Ellettsville, Ind./Edgewood) who placed ninth in the 200m dash with a career-best time of 26.66.
The Ball State indoor track & field team returns to action next Saturday (Feb. 8), which it competes in the Hillsdale Invitational in Hillsdale, Mich.
