MUNCIE, Ind. – For the second consecutive weekend, the Ball State indoor track & field team heads to Indiana University, this time for the two-day Indiana Relays which begin Friday.

Action at the Gladstein Fieldhouse gets underway at 3 p.m. for the women, with both the 60m hurdles and the long jump. Friday’s final event for the women is slated to be the DMR at 9:55 p.m. Saturday’s events begin at 9:35 a.m. with the morning section of the 400m run.

Over 1,200 athletes from more than 25 schools are set to compete at this weekend’s Indiana Relays.

At last weekend’s Gladstein Invitational also hosted by Indiana, the Cardinals scored one event win and eight top 10 finishes among a highly competitive field.

Leading the way for Ball State was redshirt junior Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) who took home top honors in the pentathlon with a career-best score of 3725, which was 208 points better than second place and just shy of the school record of 3797 held by Thekla Lorenz.

On the final day of competition, Lomax would post a Mid-American Conference Indoor Championship qualifying mark in the long jump with a career-best effort of 19’-2” (5.84m) to place third in the event. So far, Lomax is set to represent the Cardinals in the pentathlon, high jump (5’-7”/1.70m) and long jump at the league meet which runs Feb. 28-March 1.

In addition to Lomax, junior Haley Austin (Avon, Ind./Avon) is qualified for the MAC Indoor Championships in the high jump, after clearing 5'-6" (1.68m) at the season-opening Gerry England Alumni Open.

Redshirt sophomore Christina Crawford (Belleville, Mich./Romulus) is set to join Lomax in the long jump at the MAC Indoor Championships after a career-best leap of 18’-11.75 (5.78m) at the IWU Invitational, which currently ranks as the sixth-best long jump in the league this season.

Entering this weekend’s Indiana Relays, Ball State’s student-athletes are ranked in the top 30 in the league in their respective events a total of 28 times, including five top 10 efforts.
