MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State outdoor track & field team returns to action Saturday, when it travels Oxford, Ohio, to compete in the RedHawk Invitational at Miami University’s George Rider Track.
A total of 11 teams are slated to compete in the women’s portion of the meet, including the Cardinals, host RedHawks and fellow Mid-American Conference member Ohio. Action for the women begins at 10 am with the hammer throw, while track events start at noon with the 5000m run. The final women’s event will be the 4x400m relay scheduled for 3:50 pm.

At last weekend’s Jesse Owens Classic hosted by Ohio State, the Cardinals finished the two-day meet with five career-best efforts and three individual top 10 performances.
Ball State enters Saturday’s Miami Invitational with 14 student-athletes ranked in the top 20 in their respective events in the MAC outdoor performance list.
Junior Haley Austin (Avon, Ind./Avon) ranks fifth in the league in the high jump, after posting a career-best and MAC outdoor championship automatic qualifying mark of 1.70m at the Cardinal Invitational (April 11).
Joining Austin in the top 10 in the MAC high jump rankings is junior Mindy Marx (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) who is 10th in the league with a career-best effort of 1.65m, also set at the Cardinal Invitational. Marx, a four-year letterwinner for the Ball State women’s volleyball team, is in her first season on the track & field squad.
Junior Christina Crawford (Belleville, Mich./Romulus) has tallied MAC championship automatic qualifying marks in the long jump in three of Ball State’s four outdoor meets this season. Her latest was a career-best effort of 5.95m at the Cardinal Invitational which is the fifth-best mark in the league this season.
In throws, senior Erin Walker (Laurell Hill, Fla./Paxton/Troy) ranks 12th in the MAC in the hammer throw (50.54m) and 16th in the discus (44.93m).
Sophomore Michaela Hull (Bloomington, Ind./South) is poised to qualify for the league meet in three events after posting career-best mark in the javelin (33.15m / 15th in MAC), discus (44.36m / 18th in MAC) and shot put (11.97m / 23rd in MAC) at the Cardinal Invitational.
