OXFORD, Ohio - - The Ball State outdoor track & field team opened the 29th annual Miami Invitational with a strong showing in the hammer throw, and are in second place through two events at the two-day meet.
IPFW leads the meet with 21 total points and was the only team to field runners in the 10,000m run. The Cardinals are second with 11 points, followed by Ohio Dominican (10), the host RedHawks (8) and Xavier (4).
In lone scored event the Cardinals competed in, senior Erin Walker (Laurell Hill, Fla./Paxton) placed second in the hammer throw with a toss of 46.59 to earn eight of Ball State’s 11 points. Senior Jorden Traver (Lafayette, Ind./Harrsion) also picked up three points with a sixth-place effort of 42.75m.
Sophomore Michaela Hull (Bloomington, Ind./South) also competed in the hammer throw for Ball State, placing 12th with a career-best effort of 35.39m.
The Miami Invitational resumes Saturday at 10 am with the discus, followed by the pole vault, shot put and long jump at 11 am. Track action starts at 10:55 am with the 5000m run, followed by the 4x100m relay at 11:40 am. The women’s meet concludes at 3:15 pm with the 4x400m relay.
