KENT, Ohio - - Redshirt sophomore Christina Crawford (Belleville, Mich./Romulus) led the Ball State track & field team with a ninth-place showing in the long jump Friday, on the opening day of the 2014 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Kent State.
Eastern Michigan leads the 12-team meet with 40 points, followed by Kent State (33), Akron (30), Toledo (22), Bowling Green (15), Ohio (14), Western Michigan (12), Northern Illinois (11), Miami (9), Central Michigan (5), Buffalo (4) and Ball State (0).
Crawford posted a leap of 5.58m in the event, missing a top eight placement by just 0.01m. Crawford would also place 17th in the 60m dash preliminary race with a time of 7.91.
Junior Danielle Dahl (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) also had a strong showing in the 800m run, turning in a career-fast time of 2:13.80 to place 12th overall and better her seed spot of 17 entering the race by five spots.
Ball State will look to gain some ground on the rest of the MAC field Saturday, when action in the high jump gets underway at 11:15 am. The Cardinals have a pair of student-athlete poised to score in the event.
