Lomax Wins Pentathlon On Day 1 Of Gladstein Invite

   BLOOMINGTON, Ohio - - Redshirt junior Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) ran away with the pentathlon title to lead another strong showing for the Ball State indoor track & field team Friday on the first day of the Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana.

   Lomax posted a career-best score of 3725 in the pentathlon, topping second-place finisher Ivy Horn of Ohio State by 208 points. The effort was just shy of the school-record of 3797 held by Thekla Lorenz.

   On her way to the title, Lomax posted three career-best efforts while winning the high jump (1.70m) and the shot put (12.53m/CB). She also placed second in the long jump (5.71m/CB), fifth in the 800m run (2:36.14/CB) and sixth in the 60m hurdles (9.57) among the 12 pentathlon participants.

   Overall, Ball State’s student-athletes posted nine top 20 performances and six career-best efforts on the first day of the Gladstein Invitational against its toughest competition to date this season.

   Aside from Lomax, junior Haley Austin (Avon, Ind./Avon) was one of three other Cardinals to post top 10 finishes, placing eighth in the high jump by clearing 1.60m. Senior Hannah Lange (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) crossed the line in 59.10 to place 10th overall in the 400m dash, while junior Hannah Ciasto-Poor (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) cleared a season-high 3.50m for the third consecutive meet to place 10th in the pole vault.

   The second and final day of the Gladstein Invitational is slated to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday with the women’s weight throw.
