MARION, Ind. - - The Ball State women’s track and field team opened its 2013 outdoor campaign by scoring nine first-place finishes at the Polar Bear Invitational hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University Saturday.
In addition to the nine individual event victories, the meet was scored between Ball State (331) and limited competitors from IUPUI (65) and several unattached entrants (40).
Other teams competing in the meet, but not scored were host IWU, Adrian, Albion, Grace, Goshen, Hillsdale, Huntington and St. Francis (Ind.).
Sophomore Hannah Ciasto-Poor successfully defended her individual title from last year’s Polar Bear Invitational in the pole vault, clearing a height of 10-5.50/3.19m.
In her first meet since the 2012 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships, senior sprinter Janae Taylor took the top spot in the 100m dash with a time of 12.58. She also finished second in the 200m dash, an event she won at last year’s meet, with a time of 25.94.
Freshman Danielle Dahl would take home top honors in the 800m run with a time of 2:22.26, while also placing 12th in the 1500m run at 5:10.65.
In the hurdles, freshman Becca Kropf won the 400m event in 1:08.63, while placing second in the 100m event at 16:09.
Going back to the field events, sophomore Haley Austin took top billing in the high jump by clearing 5-3.75/1.62m.
The Ball State outdoor track & field team is scheduled to return to action Friday, when it travels to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Poehlein Invitational hosted by Purdue.
