Track & Field Earns 10 Top 10s At Stan Lyons Invite
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - - The Ball State outdoor track & field team earned 10 top 10 finishes at the 2011 Stan Lyons Invitational hosted by Butler Saturday at IUPUI's Michael A. Carroll Track & Field Stadium.
Redshirt sophomore Janae Taylor (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) was BSU's top performer on the day, racking up a pair of runner-up efforts. She posted a season-best time of 24.96 to place second in the 200m dash, while crossing the finish line in 12.40 to take second in the 100m dash.
Freshman Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport H.S.) turned in a season-best effort of 5-7 (1.70m) to place third in the high jump, while earning 10th in the 100m dash with a clocking of 12.63.
Classmate Hannah Lange (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville H.S.) also scored a pair of top-10 efforts, placing 10th in both the 200m dash (25.89) and the 400m dash (59.14). Her time in the 200m dash was a career-fast effort.
Junior Christine Talhelm (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central H.S.) turned in her second-straight career-best performance in the 800m run, clocking in at 2:12.00 to place fourth overall.
Rounding out BSU's top 10 performers were sophomore Judah Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain H.S.) with a fifth-place effort in the 400m dash (57.74) and sophomore MaryKate Mellen (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) with a career-best time of 4:37.39 to place sixth in the 1500m run.
BSU's sprinters also combined for a third-place showing in the 4x100m relay, clocking in at 47.67.
The Ball State women's outdoor track & field team will have next weekend off as it prepares for the 2011 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships which take place May 13-14 at Northern Illinois.
