Track & Field Takes Third At Ball State Quadrangular

   MUNCIE, Ind. - - Despite wins in four of 14 events, the Ball State indoor track & field team placed third among four teams at the annual Ball State Quadrangular Friday evening at the Ball State Field Sports Building.

   Western Michigan won the meet with 158.5 points, followed by Miami (144.50), BSU (122) and Northern Illinois (78). The meet served as the final tune-up for all four programs before the 2011 Mid-American Conference Championships which will be held at Bowling Green's Perry Field House Feb. 25-26.

   Ball State's first win of the day came in the high jump when freshman Rebecca Lomax (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport H.S.), who entered the meet as the league-leader in event, cleared 5-7 to win the event by two inches.

   With attention turned to the track, sophomore Judah Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain H.S.) picked up the first of three BSU running wins, turning in a time of 57.40 to win the 400m dash by .10 of a second.

   Senior Ali Bishel (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) picked up her second-straight win of the season in the 3,000m run with a time of 10:12.81, winning the race by almost 17 seconds.

   The Cardinals final win of the meet came in the 60m hurdles, with senior Ra'Jae Marable (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer H.S.) posting a first-place clocking of 8.701, edging out Miami's Layne Baggett by 0.006 of a second.
