TAMPA, Fla. - - One event into the 2014 outdoor season, the Ball State track & field team already has its first Mid-American Conference Championship automatic qualifier as junior Christina Crawford (Belleville, Mich./Romulus) placed fourth in the long jump at the USF Bulls Invitational.
In Ball State’s lone event on the first day of the two-day meet, Crawford shattered her previous career-best effort in the outdoor long jump with a distance of 5.93m. Her previous career-best long jump was 5.60m set last season at the Billy Hayes Invitational (May 3).
Also competing in the long jump for the Cardinals Thursday was freshman Makelle Skelton (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) with a 12th-place distance of 5.24m.
The triple jump will be Ball State’s first event Friday, with competition slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. for freshman Gabrielle Perryman (Beachwood, Ohio/Beachwood). Running events are slated to begin at 11 a.m. with a rolling schedule throughout the day.
