LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The Ball State cross country team battled wet conditions for an eighth-place showing at the 12th Annual Greater Louisville Classic Saturday morning at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park.
Team scores for the meet were tabulated per NCAA rules, meaning only NCAA Division I programs in each race were allotted team scores. The Cardinals placed eighth out of 17 teams in the Blue Race with a team score of 199 and an average time of 19:40.68. A total of 52 teams were entered in the Blue Race among all NCAA Divisions.
South Alabama won the race with 106 points, while Austin Peay (109), Samford (112), Evansville (121) and Campbell (127) rounded out the top five teams.
Leading the pack for the Cardinals for the first time in her career was sophomore Danielle Dahl (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) who clocked at 19:29.04 to place 62nd among the 329 runners entered in the Women’s 5K Blue Race.
Ball State’s strong freshman duo of Ericka Rinehart (Angola, Ind./Angola) and Jordan Timmons (Bargersville, Ind./Center Grove) followed Dahl across the finish line, placing 73rd (19:32.67) and 81st (19:36.17), respectively.
Rounding out BSU’s top five runners were junior twin sisters Caitlynn Edon and Courtney Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine). Ca. Edon placed 109th overall with a time of 19:49.75, while Co. Edon finished 120th at 19:55.75.
Also running for Ball State in the meet was redshirt sophomore Madelyn Webster (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg), who crossed the finish line in 20:04.53 to place 135th overall.
Next up for the Cardinals will be the 2013 Ball State Invitational which will be run Friday, Oct. 18 at the Muncie Elks Country Club starting at 5 p.m.
