BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - - The Ball State cross country team saw seven of its nine runners post career-best times in the non-scored 5K Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener hosted by Bowling Green Friday night at the Forrest Creason Golf Course.
The event, which was run of the last 5K of the 6K course which will host the 2013 Mid-American Conference Championships, also featured Bowling Green, Miami (Ohio), Toledo, Eastern Michigan, Youngstown State and Siena Heights.
Leading the way for Ball State for the second consecutive race was junior Courtney Edon who placed 35th among the 86-runner field with a time of 18:35.35.
BSU’s next four runners all clocked career-bests times, led by freshman Jordan Timmons (43rd/18:58.35). Timmons was followed by sophomore Danielle Dahl (44th/18:58.57), junior Caitlynn Edon (47th/19:02.05) and freshman Ericka Rinehart (51st/19:09.68).
Junior Madelyn Webster (71st/19:51.95) was BSU’s sixth-fastest runner, followed by redshirt freshman Becca Kropf (80th/21:37.19), redshirt freshman Jordan Jenkins (85th/23:16.39) and junior Ashley Schmidgall (86th/24:41.63).The Ball State cross country team returns to action next Friday, when it travels to Bloomington, Ind., for the Indiana Intercollegiates which are slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
