Cross Country Logs 2-1 Record At IPFW Invitational
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - - In what was scored at a triple dual meet, the Ball State cross country team posted a 2-1 record Saturday afternoon at the IPFW Invitational.
In the meet, the Cardinals scored wins over both IUPUI (24-31) and host IPFW (25-30), while losing to Oakland (25-30).
Senior MaryKate Mellen (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) once again led the Cardinals, placing second overall with a time of 18:33.25. The effort was a little over 32 seconds faster than her season-opening performance last weekend at the Mel Brodt Opener.
Freshman Katelyn DeVries (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) placed second for the Cardinals and fourth overall with a time of 18:42.10, which was 36 seconds faster than her season-opening effort.
Overall, Ball State's top five runners combined for an average time of 19:12.33, which is over 26 seconds faster than last week's effort at the Mel Brodt Opener.
Rounding out the Cardinals' top five runners at the IPFW Invitational were sophomore Courtney Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) in eighth at 19:14.45, sophomore Caitlynn Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) in 17th at 19:46.28 and freshman Kelly Swift (West Lafayette, Ind./West Lafayette) in 18th at 19:46.28.
Senior Emilee Zets (Berlin Center, Ohio/West Branch) and junior Esther Tirado (Dominican Republic/Lafayette Jefferson) also ran for the Cardinals finishing 24th (20:11.95) and 27th (20:29.57), respectively.
The Ball State cross country team returns to action Friday, when it travels to Terre Haute, Ind., for the Indiana Intercollegiates.Ball State's Overall Individual Results
