Cross Country Travels to Indiana Intercollegiates

   MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State cross country team travels to Bloomington Friday for the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Indiana University at the IU Championships Cross Country Course.

   The women's 5K championship race will follow the open race, which features both a women's 5K and a men's 8K, slated to start at 3:30 p.m.

   This will be the second race of the year for the Cardinals who placed second among three teams last weekend at the Miami Invitational. Ball State is preparing for the 2011 Mid-American Conference Championships Oct. 29, which BSU will host at Elks Country Club in Muncie, Ind.

   In the Cardinals first meet of the year, junior MaryKate Mellen lead the team with a sixth-place time of 19:04, followed closely behind by freshman Courtney Edon who turned in a seventh-place effort of 19:12.

   Rounding out the top 10 performers for the Cardinals last weekend was senior Madeline Goheen, who finished 10th with a time of 19:25.

   In last year's Indiana Intercollegiate Championships which were hosted by Purdue, Mellen finished 40th out of 179 runners with a time of 19:10.80, while Goheen placed 45th at 19:14.70. As a team, the Cardinals finished sixth out of 20 Indiana schools in the race.
