The Ball State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were both named to 2014 Spring Scholar All-America Teams by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The women’s squad finished the spring semester with the best team grade point average in the Mid-American Conference and was the only team from the state of Indiana to be ranked in the top 20 nationally.

The Ball State women’s team along with Arkansas and Tulane tied for 13th in the nation out of 150 teams that were recognized after finishing the spring semester with a team grade point average of 3.53. The University of Minnesota finished with the best team grade point average for the spring semester with a 3.86. The Ball State men finished with a team grade point average of 3.19 which ranks fourth in the MAC and 33rd in the nation. Yale finished with the best spring team grade point average on the men’s side with a 3.50.

“I am extremely proud of our team for their accomplishments in the classroom during the spring semester,” said Ball State head women’s swimming and diving coach Kristy Castillo. “It’s a challenge to balance their studies and sport during the championship season as they continue training in the spring. I’m pleased we were able to stay consistent from the fall semester and hold each other accountable in order to finish the year strong.”

The Team Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented twice annually, once in the fall semester/term and in the semester/term of the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring).

Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America is the oldest professional organization of college coaches in America. The CSCAA is dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming and diving at the collegiate level.
