Men's Golfers Tee It Up in State Amateur
The Ball State men's golf team is well represented at the 2014 Indiana Amateur Championship this week.
The event, which began Tuesday and runs through Friday at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, features a total of 11 current Cardinals or Ball State alumni. Scores will be updated each day at the Indiana Golf Office website.
Seven members of the 2014-15 roster are teeing it up: returning players Quentyn Carpenter, McCormick Clouser, Albert Jennings, Keegan McKinney, Tyler Ostrom and Zach Yinger, along with incoming freshman Johnny Watts.
Four Ball State men's golf alumni are also in the field: Ross Cosat (Class of 2009), Kyle Cox (2007), Skip Runnels (1975) and Brodie Williams (2013).
The Indiana Amateur is the longest running and most prestigious amateur golf event in the state of Indiana. First held in 1900, the event has crowned the top amateur player in the state for more than 100 years.
Ball State has had two of the past four champions with Tyler Merkel winning at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel in 2012 and Eric Steger winning at the Country Club of Indianapolis in 2010.
Runnels, Watts and Clouser each finished among the top 15 in last year's event at South Bend Country Club.
