Ball State’s baseball team earned four of the Mid-American Conference’s specialty awards and had six student-athletes honored on the All-MAC First and Second teams, all of which were voted on by the league's head coaches.

Ball State head coach Rich Maloney was named the league’s Coach of the Year for the third time in his career after leading the Cardinals to a 38-16 overall record, a 22-4 MAC mark, the league regular-season championship, the MAC West Division title and the No. 1 seed in this week’s MAC Tournament.  He also received the honor in 1998 and 2001 in his first stint as Ball State’s head coach.  Maloney has a 325-184-1 head coaching record at Ball State.  He was the Cardinals’ head coach from 1996-2002 before returning to Ball State in 2013.

Sean Godfrey, a senior outfielder for the Cardinals, was named the MAC Player of the Year, while Zach Plesac was honored as the MAC’s Freshman Pitcher of the Year and Jarett Rindfleisch was selected as the MAC Freshman Player of the Year.

Ryan Spaulding, T.J. Weir, Godfrey, Plesac and Rindfleisch were all named to the All-MAC First Team, while Sean Kennedy garnered second-team honors.

Godfrey owns a .336 batting average and ranks nationally in doubles (14th with 20), runs-batted-in (23rd with 52), total bases (30th with 123) and hits (40th with 76).  He was named the MAC West Division Player of the Week two times during the regular season and ranks first in the conference in hits, total bases and doubles, while ranking second in home runs and RBI.  Godfrey also ranks third in the MAC in slugging percentage (.544), fourth in runs (46), seventh in stolen bases (21) and eighth in batting average.

Plesac, a freshman pitcher for the Cardinals, ranks fourth in the nation in pitching victories and owns an 11-2 overall record with six saves and a 2.32 earned-run average.  A three-time MAC West Division Pitcher of the Week, Plesac has struck out 58 batters in 77.2 innings of work and allowed only 20 earned runs.

Rindfleisch, a freshman catcher at Ball State, led the Cardinals with a .354 batting average and has thrown out 14 of the 28 runners who have attempted to steal when he was behind the plate.  He has 31 RBI, 40 hits, three home runs and nine doubles in 113 at-bats.

Spaulding, a sophomore second baseman, owns a .300 batting average and ranks fifth in the MAC with six home runs.  He is sixth in the league in walks (33), seventh in RBI (40), tied for ninth in runs (41) and 10th in total bases (91).  Spaulding is tied for second on the Cardinals with 10 multi-RBI games and is fourth on the team with 17 multi-hit contests.

A senior pitcher, infielder and designated hitter, Weir ranks seventh in the nation with 111 strikeouts and 24th nationally with 14 games started on the mound.  He is tied for first in the MAC in strikeouts and tied for second in pitching victories (8), while ranking second in games started and fourth with 94.2 innings pitched.  Weir struck out a career-high 14 batters versus Western Michigan April 19, which was the highest single-game total by a MAC pitcher this season.  He has struck out at least eight batters in seven outings this year, including his last two contests.  Weir also hit three home runs, with five doubles, two triples and 17 RBI in his 106 at-bats.

Kennedy, a freshman third baseman at Ball State, was fourth on the team in hitting with a .330 batting average and third for the Cardinals with 18 multi-hit games.
