Baseball Wins at Toledo; Sunday Game Moved to Noon

Ryan Spaulding homered, scored four runs and drove in four Saturday as the Ball State baseball team slugged its way to a 15-4 win over Toledo at Scott Park.

The Cardinals (23-12, 8-2 Mid-American Conference) evened the weekend series with the Rockets (13-19, 5-6 MAC) at one game apiece. The teams will play the rubber game Sunday at noon -- a change from the original 1 p.m. start due to impending weather in Toledo.

T.J. Weir pitched eight complete innings, striking out eight batters, to earn the win on the mound and improve his record to 4-1 on the year.

Kyle Raleigh and Sam Tidaback also hit home runs for Ball State, which collected 13 hits on the day, including six for extra bases. Raleigh went 3-for-4 at the plate and finished only a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. A total of 10 Ball State players had a hit in the game.

Jarett Rindfleisch opened the scoring for the Cardinals with a two-RBI double in the first inning. The Cardinals went on to score the game's first seven runs before Toledo found the scoreboard.

Weir shut the Rockets out through the first six innings before the Rockets broke through with one run in the seventh. The Rockets added three more in the eighth before Weir gave way to Clay Manering to pitch the final inning.

Spaulding was 2-for-3 on the day, while Alex Call managed one hit, one RBI and three runs scored.  Caleb Stayton was 1-for-4 from the plate with three RBI.
