Women's Tennis Loses At Toledo, 4-3

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Ball State women's tennis team lost a 4-3 heartbreaker in Mid-American Conference action Friday at Toledo.  With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 13-8 overall and 3-2 in league action while the Rockets improve to 13-5 in dual action and holds a 4-2 league ledger.

The doubles point was earned by Toledo despite close decisions on all three courts.  Lexy Pitt and Emily Mazzola defeated Courtney Earnest and Bethany Moore first by a score of 8-6 at the No. 1 position.  Kristel Sanders and Toni Ormond evened the doubles competition after earning an 8-7 win over the Rockets Katelyn Nguyen and Pia Rygh at the No. 2 spot.  The doubles decision came down to Mackenzie Bowman and Lauren Thai who would go on to beat Ayaka Terashi and Courtney Wild, 8-7 on court three.

Earnest was quick of the court defeating Nguyen in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 singles which evened the score for the Cardinals at 1-1.  Lexy Pitt of Toledo put the Rockets back up by one (2-1) with her 6-1, 6-2 victory over Moore.   Ayaka Terashi evened the match at 2-2 with winning in two, 6-1, 6-2 over Kayleigh Hall at the No. 6 position.  Sanders gave Ball State the 3-2 advantage after taking down Rygh 6-3, 6-1 at three singles.  At No. 5 singles, Emily Mazzola defeated Rang in a close match, 7-6, 7-6.  The match would then come down to Wild who dropped the first set to Chrissy Coffman 6-2 before rallying in the second set 6-4 but would lose the third 6-4 to give Coffman the win and seal the match for the Rockets.

The Ball State women's tennis team concludes its four-match road swing at Eastern Michigan Saturday with a 1 p.m. first serve in Yipsilanti, Mich.
