BUFFALO, NY. - The Ball State women's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-3 battle over Buffalo Saturday afternoon in Mid-American Conference action.

The Cardinals won the doubles point and split the six singles matches to win the match.  With the victory Ball State improves to 13-7 overall and 3-1 in the MAC, while Buffalo falls to 12-4 overall and 3-2 in league action.

"Buffalo was a talented, competitive, and tough team," said Ball State head women's tennis coach Max Norris.  "It was a great experience for four hours. There was great fan turn out and a lot of tight matches. That is what college tennis is all about. As for our team, I told them last night we were on the verge of a signature moment. We've had a tough schedule and it is starting to pay dividends. It was a total team effort. I think a lot of our players pushed themselves in ways they never had and it payed off. That's what we need to remember moving forward. We Need to keep working and dig our heels in. Next week is chalked full of opportunities."

In doubles play, Ball State was victorious on courts one and three.  The No. 3 doubles duo of Courtney Wild and Ayaka Terashi were the first doubles tandem off the court with their 8-7 (7-5) defeat over Margarita Kotok and Laura Holterbosch.  Buffalo then won on court two to even the doubles score but Courtney Earnest and Bethany Moore took down the Bulls Tanvi Shah and Miranda Podlas 8-4 to claim the point for the Cardinals.

Buffalo started singles play off strong after posting wins on courts six and five to go up 2-1 over Ball State.  Earnest rallied from a set down to defeat Shah in a three-set match 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 1 position to tie the match 2-2.  The Bulls Laura Fernandez took down Bethany Moore to put the Bulls back up by one.  Kristel Sanders tied up the competition for the second time after winning on court four.  The Cardinals final victory of the match came from the No. 2 position.  After being down a set, Wild rallied back winning the second and third sets over Podlas 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) securing the victory for the Cardinals.

The Ball State women's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action on the road when it plays at Toledo Friday and will close out the weekend at Eastern Michigan Saturday.  Both matches will begin at 1 p.m.
