CHICAGO, Ill. - The Ball State men's tennis team (9-10) netted a victory on the road Thursday afternoon against Chicago State (4-18) by a score of 6-1.
The Cardinals swept in doubles play to take an early 1-0 edge over the Cougars. Ray Leonard and Austin Smith won on court one after taking down Julian Chavez and Rashley Yeremia by a score of 8-2. Patrick Elliott paired up with teammate Andrew Stutz to win their third straight doubles match at the No. 2 spot. Lucas Andersen and Matt Helm were also winners on court three.
Heading into singles action up 1-0, Ball State continued its winning ways taking five of the six matches from Chicago State. Leonard, Andersen, Smith and Downs all chalked up straight set victories in their respective positions. Elliott took his opponent to three sets after winning the first set 6-2, he would then drop the second set 7-5 to Sergiu Muresan. Elliott would then take the match after a 10-6 score in the third. Helm fell on court six for the lone loss for the Cardinals.
The Ball State men's tennis team continues action on the road when it faces Northern Illinois Saturday in Mid-American Conference action with a 2 p.m. first serve.
