Muncie, Ind. - - The Ball State outdoor track & field team returns to action Friday, when it opens competition in the 29th annual Miami Invitational at the George Rider Track in Oxford, Ohio.

A total of nine women’s teams are slated to compete in the two-day meet. Friday’s action consists of three events, starting with the hammer throw at 4 pm. The fast section of the 5000m run begins at 5 pm, followed by the 10,000m run at approximately 5:50 pm.

The invitational resumes Saturday at 10 am with the discus, followed by the pole vault, shot put, and long jump at 11 am. Track action starts at 10:55 am with Section II of the 5000m run, followed by the 4x100m relay at 11:40 am. The women’s meet concludes at 3:15 pm with the 4x400m relay.

This will be the Cardinals’ second outdoor meet this season, after last weekend’s Mike Poehlein Invitational was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Ball State opened the 2014 outdoor campaign by sending a limited squad to the USF Bulls Invitational March 20-21. The Cardinals’ best performance at the season-opener came from junior Christina Crawford (Belleville, Mich./Romulus) in the long jump. Crawford enters the Miami Invitational as the league-leader in the event with her leap of 5.93m (19’-5.5”), which was also a Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championship automatic qualifying mark.

Junior Haley Austin (Avon, Ind./Avon) enters the weekend ranked second in the MAC  in the high jump, after successfully clearing 1.63m (5’-4.25”) at the USF Bulls Invitational.

In the sprints, redshirt junior Hannah Lange (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) enters the Miami Invitational with the league’s seventh-best time in the 400m dash at 57.40.
