Dean Anna's Professional Baseball Career Stats
Dean Anna, who spent the 2008 season at Ball State before being drafted by the San Diego Padres, has made the New York Yankees opening day roster.
The Yankees open the 2014 season on the road against the Houston Astros Tuesday.
Anna went to the Padres in the 26th round of the Major League Baseball Draft with the 795th overall selection after completing his junior season at Ball State. He hit .319 for the Cardinals in 2008 with 11 home runs and 41 runs-batted-in out of the leadoff spot. Anna added 17 doubles and seven triples for a total of 35 extra-base hits.
"Everyone's excited for me," Anna says. "But it kind of just feels like a regular day. I think Opening Day's going to be a different story. Everyone was really excited and stuff. It was a good moment for my family."
This marked Anna’s first major-league spring camp after the Yankees acquired him in the offseason in a trade with the San Diego Padres to build infield depth.
Anna spent the 2013 season with Triple-A Tucson of the Pacific Coast League. He batted .331 in 132 games with 38 doubles, five triples and nine home runs, while tallying 73 RBI.
