Baseball Defeats Indiana Wesleyan in Midweek Game

Ball State's baseball team defeated Indiana Wesleyan 11-4 in a midweek game at Ball Diamond Wednesday afternoon to improve to 17-8 on the season.

The Cardinals return to Mid-American Conference action with a three-game series vs. Buffalo Friday through Sunday.  The teams will face off at Monroe Community College in Rochester, N.Y., due to weather and field conditions in Buffalo.

In Wednesday's game, Jacob Brewer improved to 2-0 after being credited with the pitching win.  In a game where the Cardinals had pre-determined the use of multiple pitchers, Brewer was the pitcher of record after pitching one inning and allowing only one hit, while striking out one.

Clay Manering started the game for the Cardinals on the mound in a game where Ball State used eight pitchers.

Ryan Spaulding and Sam Tidaback led the Cardinals with two hits apiece, while Alex Maloney was 1-for-5 from the plate with three runs-batted-in on his first career home run -- a three-run shot in the third inning.  Spaulding managed two RBI and scored one run, while Tidaback tallied one RBI and scored once.

After falling behind 3-0 to the Wildcats in the second inning, Ball State responded with a six-run third inning to take the lead and never looked back.  The Cardinals added five more runs in the contest, while allowing Indiana Wesleyan only one more run in the fifth frame.

Maloney's HR propelled Ball State's third-inning, six-run rally and his shot over the left field wall scored Sean Kennedy, who doubled, and Caleb Stayton, who reached first after being hit by a pitch.

Stayton was 1-for-3 on the day with two RBI, while Alex Call, Sean Godfrey and Kennedy each tallied an RBI in the game.
