Three of the four Ball State men’s basketball signees in the class of 2014 will be playing on the same floor this weekend for the right to take their high school teams to the state finals.
Sean Sellers’ Greensburg team will compete for a semistate championship in class 3A, while the Arsenal Tech team featuring Jeremie Tyler and Rashaun Richardson will play for a 4A semistate title.
Both teams will take the floor Saturday at the Tiernan Center in Richmond. Greensburg, the No. 1 team in 3A, will face No. 2-ranked Guerin Catholic at 4 p.m. That will be followed by the 4A game between No. 2 Tech and Bloomington North.
This weekend’s winners will advance to play in the Indiana High School Athletic Association state finals March 29 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Sellers, a 6-foot-6 wing, leads Greensburg with 20.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. He is shooting 59 percent from the floor and 46 percent from 3-point range.
The 6-foot-1 Tyler averages 16.0 points per game for Tech while shooting 59 percent from the floor and 43 percent from beyond the arc. Richardson, a 6-foot-7 post player, adds 5.5 points per game for a loaded Tech team that is rated No. 5 in the country by MaxPreps.
The fourth Ball State signee, Francis Kiapway, recently completed his season at St. Thomas More School in Connecticut. The 6-foot-3 shooting guard was one of six Division I commits on a team that finished runner-up in the prep school national tournament.
