Women's Tennis Captures 5-2 Win At Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team picked up its 10th win of the season after the Cardinals captured a 5-2 road win at Butler Tuesday evening in the Butler Bubble.  With the win the Cardinals improve to 10-6 overall in dual action while Butler falls to 2-12.

"Today was a good day for our players to face some adversity and overcome it," said Ball State head women's tennis coach Max Norris.  "We rested some players at spots and that compelled some people to step up. I think heading into the MAC season we are well aware of the determination, toughness and composure needed to win in tight matches both home and away."

The Cardinals dropped the doubles points to the Bulldogs after Grace Hyde teammed up with Angelina Qin to take down Ball State's duo of Ayaka Terashi and Courtney Wild by a score of 8-7 on court two.  Ashlyn Rang and Bethany Moore suffered a 8-6 loss to Butler's Konstantina Adami and Jocelyn Koester at the No. 3 position.  Toni Ormond paired up with Kristel Sanders at No. 1 doubles to earn the lone win for Ball State.

Despite losing the doubles point, the Cardinals battled back with five wins in singles action.  Earnest won a three set thriller on court one after dropping the first set 6-4 then came back to win 6-0, 6-1.  Sanders, Bethany Moore, Ashlyn Rang and Ormond all collected wins for Ball State in straight sets in their respective positions.

The Ball State women's tennis team begins Mid-American Conference action at home Friday and Saturday.  The Cardinals will host Northern Illinois Friday and Miami Saturday with both matches beginning at 1 p.m.  The matches will be played at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center weather permitting.  If inclement weather occurs the Cardinals will move indoors to the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
