The nation’s No. 22-ranked Kentucky Wildcats tallied a 26-3 win in the finale of a three game series with the Ball State baseball team.

The Cardinals fall to 10-5 with the loss in a series where Ball State won the first game over the nationally ranked Wildcats.

In a game controlled by Kentucky from start to finish, Ball State managed two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth.  The Wildcats scored 26 runs on 21 hits, while Ball State tallied its three runs on seven hits.

Clay Manering suffered the loss after pitching 2.2 innings and allowing five runs, while striking out three of the 16 batters he faced.

Freshman Alex Call managed three of Ball State’s hits and was 3-for-4 at the plate.  T.J. Weir, who managed his first home run of the season with a shot to leftfield in the seventh inning, was 1-for-1 with two runs-batted-in and one run scored.

Ball State scored its only other run in the eighth inning when Alex Maloney led off with a single through the left side of the infield, advanced to second base on a wild pitch and reached third when Call grounded out to shortstop.  Sean Godfrey grounded out to first to score Maloney for Ball State’s third run of the game.

The Cardinals are slated to face Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C., Tuesday and Wednesday.  Tuesday’s game is slated for a 6 p.m. first pitch, while Wednesday is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
