Men's S&D Finish Sixth at 2014 MAC Championships

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Ball State men’s swimming and diving team earned a sixth place finish at the 2014 MAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships with 160 points. Freshman Tanner Barton moved to second in program history with his time in the 200 fly consolation finals. The Cardinals earned 17 individual season bests on the day.

Barton advanced to the evening session of the 200 fly along with senior Drew Tharp. Barton qualified with the 12th-fastest time shattering his lifetime best by four second with a 1:50.90. The freshman would then go faster in the finals with a time of 1:50.86 to move into second place all-time in school history. Barton would finish 12th in the finals while Tharp would finish 16th after turning in a season-best time of 1:52.34.

Sophomore Cole Smith advanced to the 100 free consolation finals after clocking a lifetime best time of 45.77 in the morning preliminaries. Smith would finish 14th in the finals with a time of 45.79.

In the 1650 free, junior Andrew Lamb touched with a season-best time of 16:30.22 for 15th place while freshman JD Middleton earned 17th place with a season-best 16:48.11.

Junior Drew Sullenbarger turned in a lifetime-best time of 1:53.26 for 17th place followed by senior Tucker Hale who touched at 1:55.85 for 20th. Senior Cameron Watters came in with a time of 1:58.75 for 22nd.

In the 100 free, senior Michael Oaks finished in 24th place with a time of 46.68. The rest of the Cardinals in the event earned lifetime bests: freshman Austin Green (46.74), freshman Logan Kisinger (46.96), junior Neal Fennig (47.23) and Nick Rodriguez (48.75).

Junior Conner Snare came in 18th in the 200 breast with a season-best 2:11.64 while freshman Mitch Prather finished 20th with a lifetime-best 2:15.62.

Freshmen Bradley Ridge and Jacob Eckert turned in season-best times of 1:53.81 and 1:56.02 for 18th and 22nd place.

The 400 free relay of Green, Fennig, Oaks and Smith finished sixth with a season-best 3:05.52.

Senior Jake Brehmer will compete in the 2014 NCAA Zone C Diving Qualifier Thursday, Mar. 13 and Friday, Mar. 15 in Columbus, Ohio.
