NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Ball State men's tennis team fell to No. 18 Vanderbilt Friday night in the Currey Tennis Center. With the loss the Cardinals fall to 5-6 overall while Commodores improve to 11-2 on the year.
Ray Leonard and Austin Smith paired up at No. 1 doubles getting a near win over Rhys Johnson and Ryan Smith but fell 8-7 (7-3). Vanderbilt would then take down the Mid-American Conference doubles team of the week Patrick Elliott and Andrew Stutz on court two and would then sweep doubles action after Pen Binet and Anton Kovrigin took down Lucas Andersen and Matt Helm, 8-3.
The Commodores headed into singles action up 1-0 over the Cardinals. Vanderbilt took five out of the six matches from Ball State to secure the victory. Smith earned the only point for the Cardinals after defeating Johnson, 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 3 position. Andersen would put up a good fight at No. 2 singles over Kris Yee losing in three sets 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8) on court two.
The Ball State University men's tennis team continues dual action in Tennessee Saturday morning when it plays at Lipscomb with first serve at 11 a.m. (EST).
