Men's Swim and Dive Sit in Sixth at MAC Championships

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Ball State men’s swimming and diving team sits in sixth place after day two of the 2014 MAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships with 117 points. Seniors Drew Tharp and Jake Brehmer led the way for Ball State with both earning trips to the evening session.

The 200 medley relay of Drew Sullenbarger, Conner Snare, Drew Tharp and Cole Smith combined to turn in a season-best 1:35.11 for seventh place to start the evening session off for the Cardinals.

Tharp earned a spot in the consolation finals of the 100 fly after clocking a season-best time of 50.10 in the morning. Tharp would finish in 16th place with a time of 50.66.

The 800 free relay of Tharp, Neal Fennig, Tanner Barton and Michael Oaks finished sixth after finishing in a season-best time of 6:55.39.

Senior Jake Brehmer earned a spot in the consolation finals of the 3-meter diving competition where he turned in a score of 329.35.

In the morning preliminaries, Snare turned in a season-best 4:14.10 to finish 20th in the 400 IM preliminaries. Jacob Eckert would also turn in a season-best time with a 4:16.40.

Barton finished just outside of the consolation finals in the 100 fly, but clocked a season-best time of 50.33.  Classmate Bradley Ridge finished in 20th with a season-best 51.43.

In the 200 free preliminaries, Oaks was the top finisher for Ball State with a season-best 1:42.45. The rest of the Cardinals in the event also earned season-best times: Neal Fennig (1:43.30), Austin Green (1:43.72), Andrew Lamb (1:46.14), JD Middleton (1:46.39) and Nick Rodriguez (1:51.22).

Snare and Mitch Prather participated in the 100 breast for the Cardinals and clocked season-best times of 1:00.00 and 1:01.43, respectively.

In the 100 back preliminaries, Sullenbarger finished 21st with a time of 52.02, a season-best. Also clocking season-bests for Ball State included Tucker Hale (53.68), Logan Kisinger (53.75), Cameron Watters (54.61) and Cole Smith (54.74).
