MUNCIE, Ind. – The No. 14 Ball State men’s volleyball team swept the Barton Bulldogs 25-14, 25-19, 26-24 Friday evening at Worthen Arena. Fourteen Cardinals saw time in the match with five earning either season or career highs.
With the win Ball State improves to 9-5 on the season while Barton falls to 6-10 on the year.
Freshman Brendan Surane connected on a career-high 10 kills off a career-high 23 swings for a .261 hitting percentage. The freshman added a service ace, three digs and two blocks. Sophomore setter Hiago Garchet saw time in two sets earning a career-high 23 assists and five digs.
Sophomore Bobby Renaud saw time in two sets as libero for the Cardinals and picked up a season-high seven digs and three assists. Senior Urim Demirovski tallied a season-high four kills and four digs while freshman Alex Pia earned a career-high three kills off five attacks.
Ball State held the advantage in blocks on the night (10.5-6) as well as in kills (41-26) and digs (36-29). The Cardinals ended the night with a .275 attack percentage (41-16-91) while the Bulldogs managed a .080 clip (26-19-87).
Barton was led by Zach McCalla and J. Nova-Miralles who picked up nine and eight kills each.
Ball State hosts Mount Olive tomorrow evening at Worthen Arena at 7:30 p.m.
