Baseball Suffers Loss to Iowa at Snow Bird Classic
Ball State's baseball team suffered a 16-6 loss to Iowa in its second day of the Snow Bird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla.
With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 5-2 on the year, while the Hawkeyes improved to 5-1 on the season. Ball State will play Northwestern Sunday at 10 a.m. to finish off their appearance in the event.
In a game that saw the Cardinals take a 2-1 lead after the first inning, Iowa responded with one run in the second and three in the third to take a 5-2 lead. After Ball State responded with one in the fourth, the Hawkeyes managed one in the fifth and broke the game open with five runs in the sixth to take an 11-3 lead.
Ball State would rally for three in the bottom of the sixth to close the gap to 11-6, but Iowa turned right around and managed three in the seventh and two in the eighth to seal the 16-6 win.
T.J. Weir started the game and pitched three innings but took the loss.
Brandon Estep was a bright spot offensively for the Cardinals with a 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored. Ryan Spaulding was 2-for-4 with one run scored, while Sean Godfrey was 1-for-4 with one run-batted-in and two runs scored. Sam Tidaback managed to go 1-for-3 from the plate with two RBI.
