NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -- Jenna Hague tied for second with the best 54-hole score in school history and the Ball State women’s golf team finished in sixth place Tuesday at the Jim West Challenge.

Hague carded a 1-under par 70 in her final round to end the tournament with a 1-over total of 214. She held at least a share of the lead for nearly the entire day, but Gonzaga’s Raychelle Santos birdied two of her final five holes to win by two shots.

Gonzaga also finished atop the team leaderboard, holding onto its overnight lead and posting a three-round total of 878 (+26). The Bulldogs were eight shots clear of second-place Texas State, the tournament host, in the field of 15 teams.

Ball State seniors Meghan Perry, Sarah Westaway and Mary Welch each shot 77 to provide the team’s other counting scores Tuesday. The Cardinals turned in their best team score of the week with a 301 to climb one spot on the final leaderboard and finish with a 54-hole total of 926.

Hague was steady all day on the par 71, 6,178-yard layout at The Bandit Club, recording 15 pars and two birdies to just one bogey. The 72nd-ranked player in the country finished in a three-way tie for second with overnight leader Ciera Min of Gonzaga and Iman Nordin of Texas State. It was Hague’s eighth straight top-10 result.

Her 54-hole total of 214 broke the previous school record of 215 that she shared with Brittany Kelly. Hague and Kelly continue to share the record for best 54-hole score in relation to par with each of their previous 215 scores coming in 1-under finishes.

Perry, Westaway and sophomore Karley Dobis each ended the tournament with identical scores of 240 (+27) to tie for 44th place for the week. Welch rounded out the lineup at 247.

This week’s tournament was the first of the spring season for Ball State and included 11 teams ranked among the top 150 in the Golfstat rankings.

The Cardinals will return to action March 7-9 with the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational. Western Michigan hosts the event in Rio Verde, Ariz.
