MUNCIE, Ind. - After helping lead the Ball State women’s tennis team to a thrilling 4-3 victory over Michigan State last Sunday, junior Courtney Wild was named the Mid-American Conference Women’s Singles Player of the Week.
A two-time career MAC Player of the Week, Wild helped turn the momentum to the Cardinals side of the court by picking up a pivotal victory at No. 1 singles. With BSU trailing the Spartans 3-2, Wild battled back from an opening-set loss to top MSU’s Erin Faulkner 1-6, 7-6, 10-6 and even the match at 3-3.
With the win, Wild improved her overall dual record to 3-1 this season, while helping the Cardinals climb to 4-1 on the year. In addition, Sunday’s victory marked just the fifth time Ball State has topped Michigan State in women’s tennis, and first since the 2001 season.
The Ball State women’s tennis team will host Cleveland State Saturday at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center, with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m.
