Women's Swim and Dive Falls to Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Ball State women’s swimming and diving team earned five event wins against Eastern Michigan and Ohio State on Saturday at the Jones Natatorium. Senior Haley Richter earned two individual event wins and was a member of two winning relays. Ball State fell to Eastern Michigan 185-112.

The 200 medley relay started off the meet with a win for the Cardinals as Mallory Miles, Bridgette Ruehl, Haley Richter and Carlena Magley combined for a 1:47.13. Ball State would end the meet the way it began – with a relay win. This time the 400 free relay of Magley, Jordan VanWinkle, Jessica Extine and Richter turned in a 3:32.68.

Richter posted two individual event wins on the day after clocking a 52.08 100 free and a 56.12 100 fly. Magley was the only other Cardinal to earn an individual event win when she finished the 50 free in a 24.36.

Bridgette Ruehl snapped her winning streak in the breaststroke after finishing second in both the 100 and 200 breast with times of 1:04.27 and 2:20.16, respectively. Also earning a second place finish was Stacey Wierman who finished the 200 IM with a 2:13.92.

Cheyanne Jackson was the top finisher for the Cardinals in the 1000 free earning third place with a time of 10:49.53. Jackson also claimed fourth place in the 500 free with a 5:13.62. Jordan VanWinkle also earned third place in both the 200 free (1:55.96) and 500 free (5:10.60).

Larah Beaver clocked the fastest Ball State time in the 100 back with a 1:01.77 for fourth place. Katie Horn earned fifth place in the 200 fly with a 2:10.38. Emily Wisolek turned in a third place finish in the 200 back with a time of 2:10.08.

In the 1-meter diving, Madie Zirzow finished with a score of 245.95 for sixth place. She was followed by Quinn Bixler and Brittany Penn with scores of 181.30 and 173.40, respectively. Penn was the top Ball State finisher in the 3-meter event with a 210.50. Bixler followed with a 208.70 while Zirzow finished with a 206.30.

Ball State will wrap up its home schedule on Saturday, Feb. 1 when it hosts Buffalo at 1 p.m. The meet will also serve as Senior Day where eight young ladies will be recognized for their dedication and hard work over the past four years. Come support your Cardinals in their last home meet of the season at Lewellen Aquatics Center. Admission is free.
