MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University women's tennis team (3-1) netted a 6-1 victory over Oakland University (0-1) Friday night at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
In doubles action, junior Courtney Wild teamed up with junior Ashlyn Rang at the No. 3 position to take down Juliana Guevara and Rebecca Phyle, 6-0. Sophomores Bethany Moore and Ayaka Terashi then downed Camille Sabourin and Tamara Blum at No. 2, capturing the doubles point for Ball State.
The Cardinals headed into singles action up 1-0 over the Grizzlies, Ball State quickly took a 2-0 edge over Oakland after sophomore Courtney Earnest did not give up a point to Karine Celis winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 singles position. Ormond then made it a 3-0 match after a 6-0, 6-2 defeat over Guevara at No. 4. Moore and classmate Terashi kept up Ball State's winning ways each winning in straight sets in their respective slots. Despite Anna Rozenberg's efforts at No. 6 singles, the true freshman won her first set 6-2 but would drop the second set and the tie breaker.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues non-conference action at Michigan State Sunday for a 11 a.m. start in East Lansing, Mich.
