Cross Country’s Edon Sisters Earn Academic All-MAC
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State cross country twin sisters Courtney Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) and Caitlynn Edon (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) have been named to the 2013 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Cross Country Team as announced today by the league office.
Both nursing majors with 3.934 and 3.810 grade-point averages, respectively, are first-time Academic All-MAC honorees.
Courtney Edon competed in all seven meets for Ball State during the 2013 cross country season, leading the squad to the finish line six times. She placed 108th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional (Nov. 15) with a career-fast 6K time of 22:40, while earing 42nd at the MAC Championships (Nov. 2) with a 6K clocking of 23:01.93. She also posted a season-best 5K time of 18:35.35 to place 35th at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener (Sept. 7).
Caitlynn Edon also competed in all seven meets for the Cardinals last season. She turned in a career-best 6K time of 23:40 at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, after finishing 77th at the MAC Championships with a 6K time of 24:05.74. She also logged a career-best 5K time of 19:02.05 at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
A total of 29 student-athletes were named to the Academic All-MAC Team for women’s cross country. The number of honorees is set for the specific sport or 33% of the number of nominees, whichever is greater.
