YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Ball State men’s swimming and diving team posted 14 individual season-best times Friday at the first day of competition at the Eastern Michigan Invitational. The Cardinals sit in fourth with 138 points.
Senior Drew Tharp had the highest showing for Ball State with a fifth-place finish in the 200 fly with a season-best time of 1:53.89. Freshman Tanner Barton finished in eighth place with a season-best time of 1:55.14 while classmate Bradley Ridge touched at 1:56.99 for 10th place. Freshman JD Middleton turned in a season-best time of 2:07.22 for 14th place.
Senior Michael Oaks and junior Drew Sullenbarger also posted top-10 finishes for the Cardinals. Oaks turned in a season-best time of 47.44 in the 100 free for 10th place while Sullenbarger clocked a season-best 1:56.55 in the 200 back for 10th place.
Senior Jake Brehmer finished fourth in the 3-meter diving competition with a score of 263.80.
In the 100 free, freshman Austin Green (11th – 47.70), sophomore Cole Smith (13th – 47.98) and junior Neal Fennig (14th – 48.54) all turned in season-best times. Junior Conner Snare clocked a season-best time of 2:18.85 in the 200 breast for 11th place. Freshman Mitch Prather finished 13th with a 2:21.95.
In the 1650 free, junior Andrew Lamb clocked a season-best time of 17:10.34 for 12th place. Middleton finished 13th with a season-best time of 17:13.00.
The 400 free relay of Green, Shane Brown, Smith and Oaks finished in sixth place with a time of 3:11.06.
